Minoan vs Mycenean

The Minoans and Mycenaeans had many things in common. Mycenae was founded 300 years after the Minoans, and that is not a lot of time.

Both civilizations had many similar technologies and had similar knowledge, they both had similar water management, they both used drain pipes, bathrooms, bath tubs and toilets.

The Minoans did not worry about security though, which means that they were calm and peaceful, while the mycenaeans had large fortresses, and many types of security.

I think that the 2 major aspects of both civilizations survived, war and peace, which are sort of conflict in our day too, which is what i find interesting, there always seemed to be one side praising peace and another war. Thousands of years later, it seems peace and calm is slowly taking control. I believe that peace is the biggest aspect that lived on.

Greek values

The ancient greeks had a very different value system than we do, they valued ingenuity, loyalty, hospitality, athelticism, respect and intuition.I think that many of these values had been lost but I think many still exist and I think that there values are the very basics of what our system is based on.
The Greeks valued ingenuity, which means skill or cleverness I think this is very important because it helped with developing civilizations and I think that it is one of the most important values.
I also like that the greeks valued loyalty, respect and hospitality because it tells me a lot about how they treated one another, this shows that how they treated one another mattered even back then.
I think that many of the values the Greeks believed in stay in our age and i think this says a lot about these values having survived so many years. I believe just the value system the greeks gave us helped us a lot, and had a big impact on us.

Sparta

Spartans were and to this day act as a synonym to strong warriors, determination and power of will. Spartans were known for their strength and there willingness to fight and die. The values Spartans followed say a lot about them, they valued strength, deceit of an enemy and fearlessness of death. Sparta concentrated their city-state on their army and that was their main trait. Boys would start military training as young as 7 and were treated harsher than navy seals in our time. Spartans wanted to make iron men of their men, to make fighters out of their children and through tough techniques they achieved that goal. The boys would be whipped at a small mistake and then again if they showed any pain. Not the type of disciplining we use in our day and age with seven year old boys.

One of Spartas biggest rivals was Athens. Both sparta and athens had huge impacts on the greek history and history in general. Athens was a city state of democracy, artists, and thinkers while sparta was an oligarphy which was based on discipline and strength. Two very different city states. Sparta dominated Greece for over 200 years leaving an unforgettable mark on history.

In athens, while spartan boys were fighting and being whipped, athenian boys were being given strong educations compared to the brief ones in sparta.

The number of legends describing the ancient olympics is countless. Myths say that there was a very powerful and rich king, Enamaus, that had a beautiful daughter named Hippodamia. He promised her in marriage to the first man who could find her and escape in a chariot with her father in pursuit. Many men tried and were murdered by Enamaus. Only one survived and married hippodamia. He made himself kind, and to celebrate initiated the first olympic festival.

At first the prize for winning the olympic games was an olive branch and a blessing. The only competition run was the 180 meter footrace. The first one was held in 776 B.C.E. and eventually ended in 393 A.D., when the Greek empire collapsed. Since then, 293 Olympic events were held.
The people in charge of the olympics forbid that women, slaves or foreigners compete, or even watch the olympic games. Athletes also had to take an oath that they trained for 10 months and did not disrespect the gods.

As the Ancient Greece declined, that reflected on the Olympics. When the Roman Empire conquered Greece around 100 B.C., however, Roman culture and beliefs replaced the Greek ways, and the Olympics went into a decline that lasted for several centuries. For the Romans, war and trade were more important than philosophy, religion, or athletics.
