St. Nicholas was a 4th century saint and Greek bishop, he was also known as Nikolaos The Wonderworker and was known for his good deeds; He had a reputation for secret gift-giving such as putting coins in the shoes of people that left them out. This is why he became the model for Santa Claus. St. Nicholas is remembered among both orthodox and catholic Christians.
Nicholas was born into a rich christian family in asia minor, but when his parents died, he was still a young man and was raised by his uncle, who ensured he became a reader and later a priest.
St.Nicholas is known as the patron saint of merchants, sailors, thieves and students. There are many legends regarding St.Nicholas, the most famous one being in which St.Nicholas gives 3 young women purses filled with gold coins because they were going to be forced into prostitution because of a lack of money.
St. Nicholas' bones currently are in Italy, and have been requested by the Turkish goverment.
